Newborn Session FAQ
What is the best age to photograph my new baby?
Ideally, I like to photograph newborns when they are 5-10 days old and still in that super sleepy, squishy, "feel like they are in the womb" stage. Occasionally, babies who are a bit older can still be successfully photographed as well. Feel free to contact me with specific questions!
Where will the session take place?
I travel to my clients' homes for all of my newborn sessions, and will bring everything with me that we will need for the session. All I'll require is a floor space! Travel within a 25 mile radius of zip code 17078 is included; outside of this area, a travel fee of $.50 a mile will apply.
Do you bring outfits and props?
Yes! Before your session, I will ask you for your preferred color palettes and any specific requests you'd like me to incorporate into your session. I will bring a variety of wraps, outfits, and props from which you may choose at your session.
How far in advance should I book, and what if my baby comes earlier or later than anticipated?
It's never too early to book your newborn session! The earlier I know, the better, as I am not always able to accommodate late requests. Typically, I set aside weekend mornings for anticipated newborn shoots. Once your baby makes his or her arrival, I just ask that you contact me within 3 days of delivery so that we may plan a time for your session.
What can I expect at the session?
A full newborn session typically lasts around 3 hours, with time for soothing and feeding included. While I provide a personal heater for the baby, I do ask that the heat in your home be set warmly for the baby's comfort. If I am not sweating, then baby will be cold! I also use a pacifier for all of my newborn sessions (if you do not have one, I can provide a brand new one) as this helps the baby to settle more easily.
Can my family be included in the session?
I do offer a sibling/parent add-on to the newborn session, which includes 5 additional images with parents and/or siblings. However, I cannot guarantee the cooperation of younger siblings who might be having a difficult time adjusting and are overwhelmed, or who simply might refuse posed photos (it happens and is completely normal!). Please keep in mind that the safety of the newborn is always my first priority.
Are you up to date on your own vaccinations?
Yes, absolutely. Also, I will always reschedule a newborn session if I am ill or even show signs of being ill. The health and safety of my littlest clients is of utmost importance to me!
